Community Pool Project

For generations, the Cornwall community pool has been an important part of summer in our community. Our existing pool and supporting infrastructure are aging, and the Town now has a significant opportunity to replace them with a new, modern community pool complex.

The Town of Cornwall has been awarded a $5.587 million NY SWIMS grant from New York State, covering approximately 80% of the eligible project cost.

The proposed project would replace the existing pool and create a larger, modern and more accessible community pool complex designed to serve Cornwall families for decades. Preliminary plans include:

-A new, larger community pool

-A zero-entry/beach-entry area designed for young children and families

-Mushroom-style water fountains and splash features for younger swimmers

-New piping, filtration and electrical systems

-Upgraded pool decking and fencing

-A new bathhouse with restrooms, showers, changing areas and family changing rooms

-Four-season public bathrooms accessible from outside the pool area, providing year-round restroom facilities for park users

-Outdoor showers

-Improved parking and drop-off areas

-Updated site infrastructure and accessibility improvements

The total estimated project cost, including appropriate contingencies, is approximately $7.5 million.

With nearly $5.6 million in State funding, the Town’s anticipated local share is estimated at approximately $2.5 million, which would be financed over approximately 20 years.

Based on current assessed values and tax rates, the estimated annual property-tax impact of financing the project would be approximately:

$31.98 per year for a home assessed at $300,000 — about $2.67 per month

$42.64 per year for a home assessed at $400,000 — about $3.55 per month

Potential Project Timeline

If the Town moves forward with final design and the competitive bidding process in late 2026 and early 2027, construction could potentially begin in late summer or early fall 2027, with the goal of completing the new facility in time for the 2028 swimming season.

This schedule is preliminary and would depend on final design, regulatory approvals, bidding, contractor availability and construction conditions.

This represents an opportunity to leverage nearly $5.6 million in State funding toward a roughly $7.5 million investment that would replace an aging community asset while creating a more accessible, family-friendly and modern recreational facility for Cornwall.

Fall Festival Parking Restrictions

On Sunday September 20, 2026, in support of the Fall Festival, the following road closures will be in effect from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm:
Main Street will be closed to all traffic between the traffic circle and Hazen Street.

There will be no parking on Main Street, Torrey Lane, or Willow Avenue between Main Street and Broadway.

Side streets in the surrounding area will have parking restricted to one side of the street.

Please keep in mind that vehicles in violation of the above restrictions will be subject to towing at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Attention Beaver Dam Lake & Firthcliffe Heights Sewer District Residents:

Arold Construction will be rehabilitating sanitary sewer pipes as part of the Inflow & Infiltration Mitigation Project. Residents are asked to minimize water use while work is underway.

Affected properties will receive a hand-delivered notice 48 hours in advance with specific work dates.

Office Closures:

Town Offices, including the Highway & Sanitation Departments will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.

There will be no trash or recycling pickups on that day. Trash pickup will resume as scheduled, Tuesday, July 7, 2026, for residents who normally have trash pickups on Tuesday & Fridays. Recycling will have to be held until the following week, Friday, July 10, 2026.

July 4th Celebration:

The Cornwall Independence Day Committee is a group of VOLUNTEERS from the community dedicated to planning and coordinating a memorable celebration for the community.

Parking:

On Saturday, July 4th, 2026, there will be no parking from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm on both sides of the following streets:

Main Street from Hudson Street to Academy Avenue, Hudson Street from Main Street to First Street, North Street, South Street, Center Street, Quaker Avenue from Elm Street to First Street, Hasbrouck Avenue from the Traffic Circle to Clinton Street, McCann Lane, Tamara Lane and Union Street.

Parking will be restricted to one side of the street on the following:

Hazen Street and Broadway - No Parking on the west side of the street

Clinton Street and Grand Street – No Parking on the south side of the street

The following restrictions will also be in place:

**Main Street from the Traffic Circle to Willow Avenue – No Parking on either side

from *3:00 pm to 6:30 pm

**Main Street from Willow Avenue to South Street – No parking on either side

from *3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Main Street will be closed on both sides from the traffic circle to Curie Road

from *3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

**IMPORTANT!

Parking is permitted on Main Street from the Traffic Circle to South Street up until 3:00 p.m. Vehicles then have to be removed in preparation for the parade. After the parade vehicles may park on Main Street from the Traffic Circle to Willow Avenue, but there is NO PARKING on Main Street from Willow Avenue to South Street for the remainder of the night due to the large influx of pedestrian traffic.

There will be no public parking in the rear of Town Hall.

A limited number of Disabled Parking will be available on a first come, first served basis.

A state issued disabled vehicle plate or parking placard is required.

It’s going to be a hot one folks!

Be sure to take precautions and stay hydrated throughout the day. Take breaks from the sun in a shaded area, cooling station, and be sure to visit the art show in the Ice House.

The Cornwall Independence Day Committee has done an excellent job securing vendors that will have plenty of food and beverages for purchase throughout the day. In addition, the Town will have cooling stations in the following locations:

• Munger Cottage Senior Center

• Girl Scout Cabin

• Tented Area Outside of Town Hall

As always, Cornwall/NWEMS will be standing by to provide medical care as needed and running the cooling station outside of Town Hall.

Water will be available at cooling stations and for sale by vendors.
